Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970, only in the United States. More than 50 years later, Earth Day has become a world-wide observance encompassing 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. This support has led to important legislation being passed to protect our planet, with countries working together to clean up what has already been done and prevent future damage. The United Nations selected Earth Day 2016 to sign the Paris Agreement, the most significant climate accord in the history of the climate movement.
While the pandemic caused the 50th anniversary celebrations to move online, people continue to work toward the goal of saving our planet. After all, it’s the only one we have!
